Muhammad Suhail Mohamed Yazid, PhD
Tagline:Fellow, Harvard University Asia Center
Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA
Bio
Hello, my name is Suhail. I'm currently a Fellow at the Harvard University Asia Center. I'm a Singaporean historian specializing in global/international history. My primary research explores Global South efforts to challenge the rules of the international system following the Second World War.
I received my PhD in History in 2025 from the University of Cambridge, where I was Prince of Wales Student at Trinity College. I also hold a BA with Honours (Highest Distinction) and an MA from the National University of Singapore (NUS). My first book, He Who is Made Lord: Empire, Class and Race in Postwar Singapore, was co-published by ISEAS Publishing and University of Hawai’i Press in 2023.
I'm now working on my second book project. Based on my PhD dissertation, it recovers Malaysian-led initiatives to reform key global institutions—namely the Commonwealth of Nations, the United Nations, and the 'Muslim World'—during the 1950s and the 1960s.
I'm mainly at Harvard, but I also have a courtesy appointment at the NUS Department of Malay Studies. You are welcome to contact me via email.
